The Names of God: Jehovah-Shalom

Jehovah-Shalom: The LORD Our Peace

Judges 6:24 KJV
Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

Romans 5:1 KJV
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Philippians 4:9 KJV
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

The Lord truly works in mysterious ways. Sometimes, even when I have the best intentions to get a blog post up, it just does not happen. When I finish one, I immediately begin thinking and praying about the next one. So when it takes a few days, even a week, or when a week turns to two, I start to stress and worry about getting it written. I do not ever want to grieve the Spirit, but I don't want to rush it either. So this post has taken some time to write and I couldn't figure out why until tonight.

Last Sunday morning in our Sunday School class we studied Joshua. We have been doing a survey of the Old Testament and covering a book each week. As we sat there last week, listening to the man of God teach the lesson, I started writing the blog. I was inspired and I needed to get the words down before I forgot them. I carry a small notepad in my Bible to keep notes on Brandon's messages. I grabbed it and started to quickly scribble this:
God commanded the Hebrew children through Joshua to be strong and of good courage three times in the first nine verses of Joshua chapter one and a fourth time by the chapter's end. He tells them that He will not fail them or forsake them, that He is with them everywhere they go. We can find peace in Jehovah-Shalom in these verses today, even as Gentiles. We have been adopted into the family of God by accepting Salvation. Just as He told the Hebrews not to be dismayed, or afraid, He is with us! He is with us whithersoever we goest!

I could end the post there because we can have the same assurance that Joshua gave the Hebrew children of His presence and peace in our lives if we place our faith in Him. But that still wouldn't explain why it took me another week to put the post together.

Tonight was Brandon's Ordination service as Pastor at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, an event that you couldn't have paid me to believe was going to happen just 4 short years ago. One of the questions that was asked of Brandon during the Ordination Council, before the service began, was what kind of leader did Brandon want to be to the people of Laurel Hill. His reply was a leader like Joshua, strong and of good courage. Brandon's mentors and our former Pastors preached the charge to him and the charge to the church. The scripture that was used to preach the charge to the church was Joshua chapter one.  The Pastor preaching the charge to the church had no idea that we had been studying Joshua, Brandon had no idea that I had been writing the blog on Joshua, and Brandon had no idea what questions they would ask him on the council. Now you tell me God didn't have a hand in that.

We are facing and have accepted one of the greatest privileges, challenges, and burdens, that could have been placed upon us, to lead a church and a flock of God's people. It is a serious undertaking, certainly not one to be taken lightly. Brandon is now the undershepherd to this congregation of good and godly men and women. It is up to him to follow the Lord so that the congregation can in turn follow Brandon. He is to lead by example, to be blameless, above reproach, sober minded. He is called to love these people, to rebuke, reprove, and exhort them. He is God's man in the pulpit. He is our leader. God has placed a love in our hearts for the people of Laurel Hill, it began to grow the first time we passed through their church doors. But having a love for the people does not mean this burden will be easy to carry. In fact it will make it that much harder. But we can serve the Lord as leaders to His flock of people by having faith in Him that He is true to His Word and is with us whithersoever we goest. We can be strong and have a good courage because we stand in His presence, we have His peace, the peace of Jehovah-Shalom.

He has called us to arise and go forth to serve Him by leading His people.  And though there will be wolves and lions that seek to devour our flock, He will never forsake us, never fail us. We will stand in strength, boldly and courageously, with God by our side, and His peace in our hearts. Jehovah-Shalom: The LORD of Our Peace will never leave us, never fail us.

Multiplied

Your love is like radiant diamonds
Bursting inside us we cannot contain
Your love will surely come find us
Like blazing wild fires singing Your name

God of mercy sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the skies
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied

Your love is like radiant diamonds
Bursting inside us we cannot contain
Your love will surely come find us
Like blazing wild fires singing Your name

God of mercy sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the skies
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied

(Multiplied)
(Oh multiplied)

God of mercy sweet love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the skies
And these Halleluiahs be multiplied

These Halleluiahs be multiplied

(Your love is like radiant diamonds)
(Bursting inside us we cannot contain)
(Your love will surely come find us)

Like blazing wild fires singing Your name

The Names of God: Jehovah-Nissi

Jehovah-Nissi: The LORD Is My Banner or The LORD That Prevaileth

Exodus 17:15 KJV
And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

There is a war raging in this world, in the hearts of Christians. It has raged for thousands of years, since long before the first coming of the Son of Man. There have been battles won and battles lost in the hearts of every man, every child of God that has walked in this world since the fall of man. But there is one thing that we can have certainty in, and it is this, we are not in battle alone. We do not march against the enemy blindsighted. We march with Jehovah-Nissi, and we have the assurance given to us from the Word of God, that whether we are fighting the battle against addiction, death, loss, grief, anxiety, financial burden, whatever the sin or trial may be, He has already defeated it. Jehovah-Nissi, The LORD That Prevaileth, has won the war! We must simply fight the daily battles with sin, with Satan, with the secular world, and march towards the finish line.

My battle has been pregnancy loss and infertility. It wears me down, leaves me in the throes of defeat, makes every day feel like it is insurmountable. It wages war on my faith, my peace, and my joy. It is a fight that is invisible to others, which makes it harder to combat. But it is a fight that 1 in 4 women face. And with odds like that, there shouldn't be so much silence surrounding it.

It is time to break the silence, to band together in our war rooms, and pray over our battle plans. It is time to fly our Banner, Jehovah-Nissi. Our loss is nothing more than a tactic from Satan to try to tear us from beneath God's wing, where we sit loved and protected. But he cannot. We serve a God who prevails in any and all circumstances, no matter the battle. But we have to do the work. We have to march on the battlefield and declare that we are His! We have to kneel in our war rooms and call out our prayers and build up our resistance to the devil's evil tactics. He cannot have what belongs to Jehovah-Nissi.

He cannot have our faith, our peace, our joy. He may wage war on our flesh but he'll never win. Though I have suffered miscarriages, given birth to a son born still, the victory is mine because they await me in heaven, in the arms of my Victor, Jehovah-Nissi, The LORD That Prevaileth.

I am casting him out of my womb in the name of my Savior Jesus Christ. He will not dwell there anymore.

My God will prevail.

My God will triumph.

My God is Jehovah-Nissi.

I'm Gonna Die On The Battlefield

One day while I was thinking
On unseen things above
The Savior spoke unto me
And filled my heart with love

I used to have some people
Who walked and talked with me
But since I've been converted
They've turned their backs on me

Some say give me silver
Some say give me gold
I say give me Jesus
Who saved my dying soul

I'll take this gospel trumpet
And I'll begin to blow
Oh Lord if you will help me
I'll blow it wherever I go

I'm gonna die on the battlefield
I'm gonna die in the war
I'm gonna die on the battlefield
With glory in my soul

The Names of God: Jehovah-Jireh

Jehovah-Jireh: The LORD Will Provide

Genesis 22:14 KJV
And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

Jehovah-Jireh, The LORD Will Provide. I have so many testimonies, so many blessings I could write about in affirmation of this name of God. So many times in my life and in the lives of my family and my church family when the LORD has provided, has seen to our needs in ways we did not think possible. Jehovah-Jireh sees each and every one of us, sees what we stand in need of and provides for us in ways we cannot fathom, just as He has always done.

Abraham was the first to use this name of God after God provided for Himself a lamb to sacrifice on Mount Moriah. Abraham took a staggering leap of faith when he left that day to walk with Isaac up on the mountain. But he never doubted that they would both return. He told the men who had made the journey with them that together he and Isaac would go and worship and together they would return. He never doubted, even for a second that Isaac would return with him, even telling Isaac that God would provide Himself a burnt offering. His faith was rewarded in God's provision of the ram. God knew that Abraham was willing to give all he had to God, even his own flesh and blood, and so He blessed him with the promise that Abraham's seed would multiply as the stars of the heaven and the sands of the sea shore. And God continued to provide for the children of Israel throughout their generations.

And we can be sure today that beyond our physical needs and wants, beyond all things worldly and temporal, our eternal needs have been provided for as well. Jehovah-Jireh provided for Himself a sacrifice once again in His Son Jesus Christ, a Lamb more pure than any other, perfect and without blemish. Once we accept His Son as our Savior, we need not ever worry again about the trails and tribulations of this life. That is not to say that we will not endure them as children of God, but that we have the assurance that regardless of the outcome of our trials, they are only temporary. Our eternal provisions have been made. My earthly home may be small, may be old, may not be fancy and may need many repairs, but my Lord has gone to prepare a place for me, a mansion in gloryland, that mortal hands could never craft. My earthly car may be outdated, scratched, dented, and in need of repairs, but praise God I'll not need it when I leave this wretched body behind and my feet touch the streets of gold that await me in Paradise. My clothes may not be fashionable, may not fit just right, and  my boys may wear hand-me-downs, but that's just fine, because my Savior is standing at the right hand of the Father, ready to adorn us in robes of white and crowns of glory.

There may be much you stand in need of tonight, but there is nothing that Jehovah-Jireh cannot provide, temporal or eternal, we must simply put our faith in Him and ask. We must be willing to take that staggering leap of faith as Abraham did and trust that God will provide for His own. We must lay our Isaac down, whatever that may be. We must be prepared to give God our all, our most precious possessions, our time, our lives, and serve Him. When we give Him our lives in service, He sees to every need, He provides at every turn and in every circumstance.

He is Jehovah-Jireh, the LORD Who Provides.

Abraham prayed for the day
God would give him a son
Blessed Isaac was his name
The greatest gift he’d ever known
Then came the day, who would have dreamed
God would say “Give him to me
On this mountain you will prove,
It’s you and Isaac, or it’s me and you”

When I lay my Isaac down
Broken heart but my Fathers proud
On this altar here he lays
Just to find it wasn’t him, God wanted me

Most of us I’d dare to say
Have an Isaac in God’s way
On the Altar God will prove
It’s not your Isaac that he wants
He wants you

When I lay my Isaac down
Broken heart but my Fathers proud
On this altar here he lays
Just to find it wasn’t him, God wanted me

The Names of God: El Roi

El Roi: The God Who Sees

Genesis 16:13 KJV
And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?

There was a young boy whose mother had passed away unexpectedly. He was the smallest of several children and his father was grief-stricken. The boy never uttered a word or shed a tear when they told him his Momma had died, he was quiet through the planning of the funeral and during the service, silent on the car ride to the cemetery.

But when the men started to lower the casket into the ground, the little boy started screaming, "Don't put my Momma in that hole! Don't put my Momma in the ground! Don't put my Momma in that hole!" He was sobbing and screaming while his Daddy held him and they watched as her casket was finally lowered.

On the car ride home, the little boy asked his Daddy when his Momma was coming home, and tired and worn, sorrowful and stressed, his Daddy snapped back at him, "Son she's not coming home ever again and you just need to hush about it."

He'd not have spoken to the boy that way if he'd not been heartbroken, he never meant to hurt him. The boy hushed and didn't speak the rest of the ride home. Once there the children went inside and began getting ready for bed. The Daddy sat alone in the dark in the bedroom he'd once shared with his wife. He hadn't said a word since he'd snapped at his boy.

His door opened and the little boy came in and said "Daddy, if my Momma ain't never coming home again, can I sleep with you?" His Daddy told him he could and they climbed into bed. It was only a minute later when the Daddy felt his son's hands brush across his face, lightly, gingerly. He said "Son what are you doing?" And the little boy answered, "Daddy you might not know this but I'm afraid of the dark and if I can just feel your eyes, I'll know you're looking my way and I'll be alright."

I'm glad tonight that I worship and serve a God whose eyes are looking my way! I've got a heavenly Father who sees me! He sees me in the darkest black of night and the brightest light of day. He sees me in my sorrows and my rejoicings. He sees me and He knows my fears and my dreams. I am so thankful that I've got a Father that I can scrooch up to when I'm afraid, when I feel like my world has fallen to pieces around me. I'm just so thankful tonight to know the God Who Sees.

I was worried that I'd not be able to do this post justice, that I wouldn't be able to magnify His name. But then I heard one of my favorite preachers, Brother Mark Stroud, give this illustration about the little boy in a sermon and I knew exactly why I'd tarried in writing this post. Sometimes we just need to know and to be thankful for who He is and what He has done for us. He's not bound by flesh, He won't snap at us, and we need not tell Him what our fears are because He already knows. He knows us inside and out, knows the very number of hairs on our heads. He knows when we're scared of the dark, when we need held, when we need peace and when we need comfort.

Hagar was the only person to ever call God by this name. I've read many commentaries about this as I've studied in the last week and each one had a different thought about why she gave God this name. But I wondered if it wasn't because it was in that moment when the angel of the Lord appeared to her and told her that she was with child and his name would be called Ishmael, meaning "God hears", that she realized that the God of Abraham was her God too? She was an Egyptian, possibly a runaway slave, whose own name means "forsake."  Maybe she knew that then as the angel stood in front of her after she had fled Sarai's jealousy, that God had not forsaken her. That He did in fact see her. He saw her in that moment and He saw her again in the wilderness after she and Ishmael had been cast out following Isaac's birth. She had left her son in the shade of a brush tree and had gone a bowshot off so that she couldn't hear his cries as he died. She sat crying and hopeless when the angel of the Lord appeared unto her again saying this time that God had heard Ishmael's cries and they would be delivered.

Genesis 16-19 KJV
16 And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.
17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
19And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

He is the God Who Sees and He sees me.

The Names of God: El Olam

El Olam: The Everlasting God

Psalms 90:1-2
[A Prayer of Moses the man of God.]
1 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

Isaiah 40:28
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

I like to do a series with the blog posts because it focuses my thoughts and writing rather than just writing about random thoughts. And I like the series posts because when I'm done with one I immediately begin thinking about the next. Sometimes this means I have the next post up in a couple of days but usually it's a week. But everyday for that week I am thinking about the next post in the series and how my life factors in to what I'm studying about. I know I probably sound redundant at times because I write about losing Lachlan and my other babies, about the changes in Brandon over the last 3 years, about my fears and dreams for my boys - but I can only write what I know, what I feel, what I see. I can only write my story because God has given it to me to use to glorify Him.

So this week as I thought about El Olam, the Everlasting God, and my story, I was overwhelmed at the magnitude of what this name of God means.

It simply means that God and all He is, all He represents, all of His promises are eternal, without end, lasting forever. His love. His mercy. His forgiveness. His grace. His compassion. His comfort. His shelter. His longsuffering. His glory. His goodness. His gentleness. His hope. His faith. His peace. His redemption. His righteousness. His joy.

We could never deserve Him. Never work to gain His favor. Never be good enough for His eternal and everlasting greatness.

And yet in all His eternal majesty He still created us, still spared us from the flood, spared us from hell by sending His only begotten Son. He loved us more than we could possibly fathom.

El Olam has been our dwelling place in all generations, from beginning to end.

He fainteth not, neither is He weary. He never tires of hearing our problems but He deserves our praises. He never tires of comforting our sorrows but He deserves our sacred songs. He never tires of loving us in spite of our sins but He deserves our lives to be lived in fear and service, truth and love of Him.

There is no searching His understanding. We cannot know in this life why He chose to send Jesus to die for our sins, aside from eternal love. But He did choose to. Before the mountains were brought forth, before He formed the earth and world, the everlasting to everlasting God knew my story and chose to send His Son to die so that I could tell it.

You made dry ground where once were oceans
Where once were mountains You made them low
Where there were stones, now there is water
You satisfy my thirsty soul

There's strength in knowing You are near me
That peace that You, alone bestow
I love You more today than ever and I just wanted You to know
Where there is fear Lord You will hide
when winds of danger around me roll
I feel your arms of grace around me and I just wanted you to know

All those times I've seen your glory
And how You've conquered my every foe
My love for you is overflowing
And I just wanted-- Lord I just needed!
My heart is longing for You to know...
and I just wanted You to know

The Names of God: El Elyon

El Elyon: The Most High God

Genesis 14:19 KJV
And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

I have had a difficult time this week determining just exactly where the Lord wanted me to go with this post. There were several ways I could have gone.

I thought about addressing the abomination of the Bruce Jenner sex change. The Most High God does not make mistakes in creation. He knows us within our mother's womb, knows our very frame and the numbers of hair on our heads, He bottles the tears that we shed. He does not create us as females trapped in males bodies. The very idea of that someone suffers from this because they were born that way is ludicrous. It is a mental illness that should be treated as such.

I thought about the last 4 weeks in my family's life. My niece was hospitalized with high blood pressure at nearly 37 weeks pregnant and several stressful days later she welcomed a perfectly healthy, beautiful and tiny baby boy into the world. 2 of my great aunts, they are sisters, were diagnosed with cancer on the same day. Neither prognosis was good. We attended the funeral of 1 today while the other recovered from surgery at home. Last week I completed my first round of fertility treatments and now we begin the agonizing 2 week wait to take a pregnancy test. My Daddy and my Papaw are each having heart procedures done tomorrow. Routine procedures but heart surgery nonetheless. And El Elyon, the Most High God, the possessor of heaven and earth as Genesis 14:19 proclaims Him to be, is in control of it all.  Each and every situation. And yet it can be so hard to put our faith in Him when the most stressful moments of life are upon us. We so quickly forget what the Most High God is truly capable of.

But tonight, as I stood to hear the reading of God's Holy Word in our church service, the Holy Ghost whispered to me. My Pastor read from Hebrews 12:1-3, "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds." El Elyon, the Most High God was brought to the lowest of low for you and I.

The weight of this world, the sin and the abomination that bombards us through every media outlet available, the worries of this flesh life and body, need be laid aside. When we find ourselves gossiping about the sins of one celebrity or another, instead of praying about the sin in our lives or praying for their souls, we are weighting ourselves down. When we find ourselves in a panic or on the verge of a nervous breakdown about a family member's health, our own desires, or even the stresses of working and paying the bills, keeping the house clean and the yard mowed, we are weighting ourselves down. We cannot run the race that has been set before us with the weight of the world on our shoulders.

So what must we do?

We must look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, the Son of El Elyon, the Most High God, and we must remember what was done for us. When we are wearied and faint we must remember what was endured for our sake. El Elyon came in the flesh as Christ Jesus. The Highest of Highs became as the lowest of lows when He was born as a babe in a manger. Though perfect and sinless, He was born into a world of sin and wickedness, He endured the cross and the contradiction of our sins upon His innocence. And He did it with joy. He did it so that when we are weary and burdened we can remember, we can feel it deep within our souls, His love and what His sacrifice means for us. It means that no matter how heavy the weight of this world is we do not have to bear it alone. We can cast it aside and look to Him, El Elyon, the Most High God.

The Names of God: El Shaddai

El Shaddai: The Almighty God

Psalms 91:1 KJV
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalms 84:10-11 KJV
10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

Thursday night, I held my youngest son and cried myself to sleep, cried because of the cruelty of this world. Earlier in the evening I had been reminded of just exactly why I don't watch the news. The headlines and stories are heartbreaking, full of evil, and leave me physically sick thinking of how much my small town has now become like the world, they've become the same, no longer inseparable. No longer can I say I live in a Mayberry-esque town because the things that I read Thursday night don't happen in Mayberry. Parents in Mayberry loved their children. They protected them from all harm and taught them right from wrong. The parents in Mayberry didn't become the monsters hiding in the closet. Abuse, sexual, physical, or mental, was unheard of in Mayberry, unthought of. But the reality is that Mayberry was never real. Sheriff Andy Taylor never existed. Aunt Bee never cooked and cleaned the house while Opie was at school. Barney Fife never carried his single bullet in his pocket. Mayberry was too good, too innocent to be true.

Today, children aren't safe in their own homes, aren't safe from their own parents and siblings, much less the strangers that live in their towns. The reality is that sin entered into the world with Adam and Eve and the majority of the generations of men living today have given up on fighting the evil battling to completely possess their hearts. What other explanation do we have for a "mother" to allow the sexual abuse of her own children and knowingly allow them to sexually abuse other children, innocents as young as 6 and 3 years old?

My first reaction to this news article was to call for a courthouse lynching, to string this woman up and send her straight to hell. But as I cried myself to sleep, clutching Devlin and breathing in his sweet baby scent, I found myself asking for forgiveness of those thoughts. What that woman did deserves eternal punishment, hellfire and brimstone, unending torment. But I was reminded that as a sin sick, flesh woman myself, I too deserve the same fate. No, my crimes, my sins, in no way amount to the sickness, evil, and dementedness that her actions do, but that doesn't matter because our fates were once the same. I would still be headed towards an eternity in flames where the worm dieth not, if not for El Shaddai, The Almighty God, The All-Sufficient God. El Shaddai, in His infinite love for us sent His only begotten Son to take our punishment. His sacrifice became sufficient for my sins and all I had to do was accept Him as The Almighty God, my Savior.

If she so chooses, this woman too, as vile and evil as I believe her to be, can find forgiveness, mercy, and grace, just as I did at the feet of The Almighty God. And the children involved will find love, pure, selfless, all encompassing love in El Shaddai. Though they have a lifetime of issues to work through, He is sufficient. His unending mercy and grace will be sufficient to see them through this lifetime until they are in His presence. I just pray that they have someone in their lives who loves them enough to introduce them to the Man who can be their strength and sustainer, El Shaddai.

The Names of God: Adonai-Lord

Adonai-Lord: Master

Adonai-Lord indicates the sovereignty of God. The Master is the one who assumes control of a situation. The servant, seeks to know and to do the will of his Master.

Genesis 15:2 KJV
And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

Abram was in a pickle. He was old, rich, and had no heir. He knew if he were to die, all that he had worked for, all that God had blessed him with, would go to some servant in his household, not his own flesh and blood. Never mind that he was being less than grateful or faithful. God had already made a powerful and bountiful covenant with him in Genesis 12:1-3 and renewed that covenant again in Genesis 13:14-18. God had assured Abram twice now that his seed would number as the dust of the earth. But Abram, like the rest of us doubted after time had passed and he was still childless. Abram was flesh, just like you, just like me. His faith faltered a little. He stumbled a bit in his walk.

Yet the knowledge that God was still God was clear when Abram called upon Him in Genesis 15:2. The Hebrew for Lord GOD in this verse is Adonai-Lord, Master. There may have been a little doubt creeping in and beginning to clutch at his heart but the truth remained, the truth that God is Master, He is in complete control. And because He is our Master, we are to serve Him, trust Him, and have faith in Him.

And like the loving and merciful Master He is, when Abram reminded Him that he was still childless, God, Adonai, promised him his heart's desire. But not only did He promise Abram an heir from his own loins, He promised for the third time that Abram's seed would number as the stars in the heavens.

Three times now, God had spoken to Abram and told him he would be the father of many nations, and somehow this was still not sufficient for him. Once again he got impatient, restless, and he took matters into his own hands, and Ishmael was conceived.

Astoundingly though, God once again renewed His covenant with Abram after Ishmael's birth. This was a sure sign of His love and patience with us. Were it any other father and son, I imagine there would've been much yelling and throwing hands in the air. But He remained long-suffering, even through His promise to Sarah of a son as she laughed at the absurdity of a child at her age.

Finally in Genesis 21, when Abraham was 100 and Sarah 90, Isaac was born and the rest is history as they say.

It took 25 years for Abraham to begin to see the fulfilling of the covenant God had made with him in Genesis 12, but that certainly did not mean that God was not in control every minute of those 25 years. And when you think about it, to only have to be reminded 3 times in a quarter of a century that God is in control, that He is Master and you are servant is pretty astonishing. It seems He has to remind me at least a dozen times in 24 hours.

But He is. He is Master. And He is in control of each and every situation, whether it be spiritual, financial, physical, or mental, He is Master. He created the heavens and the earth...He can cure cancer with a single thought. He breathed life into dust and made man...He can put life in even the most barren of wombs. Through His Son, He took 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes and fed 5,000...He can see any bill paid, any mouth fed.

He took one man's faltering faith and made him the father of many nations.

Here I am Adonai-Lord, use me up, make me your righteous and faithful servant.

Adonai

One single drop of rain
Your salty tear became blue ocean
One tiny grain of sand turning in your hand
A world in motion
You're out beyond the furthest Morning Star
Close enough to hold me in Your arms

Adonai, I lift up my heart and I cry
My Adonai
You are the Maker of each moment
Father of my hope and freedom
Oh, my Adonai

One timid faithful knock
Resounds upon the Rock of Ages
One trembling heart and soul
Becomes a servant bold and courageous
You call across the mountains and the seas
I answer from the deepest part of me

Adonai, I lift up my heart and I cry
My Adonai
You are the Maker of each moment
Father of my hope and freedom
Oh, my Adonai

From age to age you reign in Majesty
And today You're making miracles in me

Adonai, I lift up my heart and I cry
My Adonai
You are the Maker of each moment
Father of my hope and freedom
Oh, my Adonai

The Names of God: Jehovah-LORD

Jehovah-LORD: "The Self-Existent One"

Exodus 3:14 KJV
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

I think that there are several stages in a person's life when "Why" becomes their favorite question. I know my boys have certainly tested the limits of my patience with that question. And sometimes my favorite response is "Because I said so." And I imagine as they grow up and continue to test the boundaries their Daddy and I set for them, they'll continue to ask "Why" and my response will probably continue to be "Because I said so" or some variation. And as they continue to grow into adults and have disappointments and curiosities, they'll keep asking, and they may receive an answer and they may not. But eventually it's the "Whys" that drive us. They can drive us mad or they can drive us to action. They can drive us towards God or away from God.

I've uttered the question in disbelief, I've screamed it in anger, I've groaned it in pain. And in those times the answer is the hardest to understand. Each and every time I have lost a baby, I've run the gauntlet of these emotions and I've wanted that one question answered.

This past week as I listened to a woman recount her friend's story of tragic stillbirth, I softly asked "Why Lord?" Why did He let her pregnancy reach 30 weeks and then call her baby girl home? Over the weekend I sobbed "Why Lord?" in crushed disappointment because I missed the birth of my first great-nephew. Why when He knew how much I wanted to be there for my niece did He keep me from her?  And as I sat tonight and heard a sweet friend confide in me her loss of a precious baby boy 11 years ago, I wondered "Why Lord?" Why has she had to carry the burden of this loss alone all these years?

I think as a Christian the "Whys" are harder to deal with than any other question because we have to have faith that He has a perfect will for each and every one of us. It's not as simple as asking "Why does the Earth revolve around the Sun?" or "Why do earthquakes happen?" We can't just pull up Google and ask God why life happens the way that it does. But we can turn to His Word and find comfort. The great I AM sent me each and every one of my babies, just as He sent Moses to lead the children of Israel out of bondage. And when they fulfilled their earthly purpose He called my babies home again, just as He'll do with Kieran and Devlin when they fulfill their purpose for Him, just as He did with Moses, just as He does with us all. Each positive pregnancy test was not a promise of a life here on earth with that baby but an eternity spent worshiping my Jesus side by side with my baby. We are never promised eternal life here on earth but in a perfect Heaven with a perfect Father when we accept His perfect Gift.

We may never have an answer for our "Whys" here on this earth but we can have faith that the Self-Existent One, the great I AM, has a true and perfect answer.

The Eternal Life

(to the tune of Auld Lang Syne)

It singeth low in every heart,
We hear it each and all;
A song of those who answer not,
However we may call.
They throng the silence of the breast;
We see them as of yore;
The kind, the true, the brave, the sweet,
Who walk with us no more.
’Tis hard to take the burden up,
When these have laid it down;
They brightened all the joy of life,
They softened every frown.
But, Oh, ’tis good to think of them
When we are troubled sore;
Thanks be to God that such have been,
Though they are here no more.
More home-like seems the vast unknown
Since they have entered there;
To follow them were not so hard,
Wherever they may fare.
They cannot be where God is not,
On any sea or shore;
Whate’er betides, Thy love abides,
Our God, forevermore.

The Names of God: Elohim-God

Elohim-God, The Strong and Faithful One.

Psalms 90:2
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

I'll just be honest tonight. I'm sitting here in the middle of my very own pity party, ugly crying and everything in my living room while Brandon and the boys sleep soundly.

And over what?

My time.

There aren't enough hours in the day to do all that I need or want to do. Not enough time for housework or homework, not enough time to blog or to update our ministry website, not enough time to prepare for my women's meeting devotion next week or vacation Bible school, not enough time to cook supper - much less eat it, not enough time to do our yard work, not enough time to play with my boys, not enough time to spend with my husband, and not enough time for me to read, to sew, to sit down and enjoy Netflix without worrying about my never-ending "to do" list. And someone please tell me where to find enough time to sleep. I am crying over time spent doing everything but what ought to be done, time spent on everyone else but myself. It is a selfish, hateful pity party.

And as I sit here typing my list of obligations, priorities, and wants and crying because there is not enough time for myself during the day, it is glaringly obvious that there isn't enough time for what ought to be my number one priority, my Jesus. Where in my list was I worried that there wasn't enough time for Jesus in my day? I wasn't. He was an afterthought, put on the back burner until I could find 5 minutes for Him that I wasn't selfishly wanting for myself.

What if Elohim-God felt that way about me? What if I was just an afterthought to Him, just a muttered prayer at bedtime, what if He went all day and never once thought of me? If The Strong and Faithful One were as selfish as me, I'd not even be here, none of us would be. He'd never have sent His Son to shed His blood on Calvary if He were as selfish and as hateful as I am feeling right now.

But from everlasting to everlasting, He is Elohim-God, He is strong and He is faithful. And He'll still love me when I wipe the tears from my face and ask forgiveness for the selfish way I've behaved. He'll still love me even though there wasn't enough time to finish my homework this week. He'll still love me even though there is a mountain of laundry to do and a pile of dishes to wash. He'll still love me even though my yard needs tended to. And He'll still love me even though I desperately want to sit down and binge watch Netflix and eat the hidden stash of Easter candy I have.

But what He wants is for me to give Him my time. He wants me to wake with His name on lips and fall asleep uttering His praises at night. He wants me to spend my time in His Word during the day and come to Him with thanksgiving not just wanting and needing. He wants me to grow strong in His Word and be faithful in my love. He wants me to spend as much time with Him as I want to spend on myself.

From everlasting to everlasting, He is Elohim-God, He is strong, He is faithful, and He deserves my time.

Our Testimony

* Orignial Testimony written April 1, 2014

Brandon was saved at 9 years old when an aunt and cousins took him to Vacation Bible School at Faith Baptist Church, not far from where he lived.  From that time on Brandon was in church intermittently with the same aunt and cousins or with friends.  At 12, his parents and grandparents began an at home Bible study.  For 12 long years he was exposed to false doctrine and false teachings about the Bible and Our Lord.  But The Lord had a purpose. He had plucked Brandon out of the fire at an early age and Brandon's Salvation kept his heart protected.
I was saved at 5 years old in my Momma's Sunday School class at Roland's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.  I know that there are some that would scoff and be skeptical of a 5 year old's Salvation. But I can still remember the lesson. Momma was teaching about Elijah and the ravens and how The Lord had provided for and protected Elijah because of his faith and love for The Lord.  I knew then that I loved Jesus and I knew I didn't want to be bad any more and I asked Jesus to come and live in my heart. It was as simple as that.  I think the whole church heard my Momma shout that morning.
Our childhoods were very different. I was raised in church. I was there every time the doors were open.  Sunday School, VBS, Christmas plays and Easter pageants, revivals and jubilees.  Brandon's family met once a week and read the Bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse.  An amazing thing for a family to do.  If they're teaching biblical doctrine and worshipping and praising The Lord.  They were not.  When Brandon and I started dating in 2005, I attended Bible study with him on many occasions and each and every time I walked away with a lot of questions.  I was firm in my faith and knew false doctrine when I heard it.  I went to my Momma with my questions and I prayed for Brandon. For 7 long years we argued tiresomely about the differences in our beliefs. I wouldn't give in to what I knew was wrong and he wouldn't give in because he knew no other way.
In May 2007 we were married in a very country ceremony in my family's barn.  Even the mule made an appearance.  I wanted babies and in December of 2007 we decided to start a family.  We were living in a house owned by his grandparents and paying rent and doing our best to make ends meet.  We had an old Fisher Momma Bear woodstove that did her best to heat the drafty 5 bedroom house.  But we woke one morning to a cold stove and an even colder house. It was 12* outside that morning in January 2008 and as Brandon was trying to start a fresh fire in the stove, the creosote that had caught fire in the chimney, caused the chimney to explode when it caught fresh oxygen. This caused the burning logs to roll out on to Brandon, setting him on fire from the tips of his toes to his eyebrows.  As he was screaming and tearing the burning clothes from his body, the rug, curtains, and pine wood paneling in the living room went up in flames.  Brandon beat out the flames on his body, as I tried to throw water on an already out of control fire.  We ran for the back door and I grabbed my purse off the kitchen table.  We made it out of the house and ran past the kitchen windows to my car just as the windows in the house exploded.  We had no cell phone service where we lived and our phones were still in the blazing house. We drove to a neighbor’s house to call 911. Brandon had only his underwear on and 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his legs where the logs hit him.  I can still smell the acrid smoke that clung to him for days.  We lost everything we owned in that fire.  Sometimes I still go to look for something and realize it was lost in the fire.  But The Lord protected us.  Had we not woken up early that morning because of the cold, the creosote fire in the chimney could've killed us before we knew what was happening. The Lord saved us from that house fire, just as He has saved us from an eternal and undying hellfire.
In February 2008, a month to the day from the fire, I took an at home pregnancy test and it was positive.  I was ecstatic.  I had dreamed of being a Momma from the time I was a little girl.  It was 5 am and I woke Brandon up with the news by jumping on the bed.  I felt like I was floating on a cloud all day.  I couldn't wait to rush out to the store and buy "I love Grandma" and "I love Grandpa" bibs to give to my parents.  We were so excited to tell the news.  Neither of us could keep it a secret.  We went that weekend and bought half a dozen pregnancy and parenting books.  We started searching for the perfect baby name.  5 days later I miscarried.   We were crushed.  I felt like my heart had been ripped from my body.  It wasn't fair.  We had been married less than a year and already we had lost our home and everything we owned and now our baby.  We sat in the doctor's office with tears running down our faces as the doctor told us that it was common and that if I hadn't tested so early we probably would never have known I was pregnant.  She went on to tell me I was due for my annual exam and asked if I wanted to go ahead with it while I was there.  Her coldness and detached manner is something that still sticks with me today.  I realize that to her it was an everyday occurrence, but to us, our world had just fallen apart, again.  A baby is a baby, no matter how small, no matter how long you've known.  A baby is a piece of your heart and soul and a blessing from The Lord.
It took us 18 months to conceive again and in that time we bought a house and started to rebuild our lives.  In June of 2009 I tore my ACL and needed surgery to repair it.  I was out of work for 12 weeks and in August, just before I returned to work, I took another home pregnancy test.  I had taken so many in that very long 18 months that when it turned positive I nearly fell out in the floor.  I couldn’t believe it.  I just sat there and cried and thanked The Lord.  Brandon was at work and I was at my parent’s.  I had locked myself in the bathroom to take the test and I had been in there so long (because I had immediately called my new doctor’s office to make an appointment) that my Momma had come to check on me.  I got off the phone and opened the door.  She took one look at me and knew I was pregnant.  We stood there and hollered like loons and praised The Lord for being so good.  I was on cloud 9 and nothing could bring me down.  I returned to work at the end of August and it wasn’t long until the morning sickness began.  And I welcomed it.  Everyone told me it was a good sign.  It meant that the baby was growing and thriving.  Our first doctor’s appointment went off without a hitch.  Baby looked great on the first ultrasound at 10 weeks and the heartbeat sounded magical at 14 weeks.  We returned for our anatomy scan at 20 weeks with an entourage in tow.  My belly had grown and I had felt those tell-tale quivers and flutters of baby’s first movements.  I was past the morning sickness and my life could not have been any better it seemed.  Our family crowded into the room, cameras in hand, and the tech dimmed the lights and gelled my rounded belly.  We anxiously awaited to be told what our bundle of joy would be.  She suddenly turned and asked us to put the cameras away and said the doctor would be with us shortly.  She asked our family to return to the waiting room and for us to follow her to the doctor’s private office.  I knew in my heart, in the pit of my stomach that something was terribly wrong.  And yet I was so unprepared for what the doctor uttered when she finally joined us.  “I am sorry, but your baby is dead.”  I would’ve collapsed if I hadn’t been sitting.  I would’ve screamed if I could’ve found my voice.  Instead I sobbed and clutched Brandon as tightly as I could.  As if that would make it go away.  She left us to prepare papers for my admittance to the hospital.  I still had to labor and deliver my baby.  I still had to walk to the waiting room and tell my family that my baby was dead.  I still had to breathe even though it was the last thing I wanted to do.  The next 24 hours were undeniably the hardest in our lives.  I was admitted to the hospital and they medically induced my labor.  12 hours later I delivered a beautifully tiny, wonderfully perfect baby boy.  He was no bigger than the palm of my hand and yet he was so perfectly formed.  He had 10 toes, 10 fingers, tiny ears and lips and a button nose.  Another 12 hours later and we took our son, Lachlan James, home to be laid to rest.

The next 6 months were very bleak.  We were in a deep and dark hole full of anger and hopelessness.  We turned everywhere but to The Lord for comfort.  My darkness found me on the side of the tub, a fifth of liquor in one hand, and a razor blade in the other.  I could not see past my pain.  I could not see God’s purpose in taking my son from me.  And I didn’t want to.  The last thing I wanted to do was pray.  I didn’t want to talk to God, I didn’t want to think about God.  In my heart I knew He loved me and yet somehow instead of helping my pain, that only made it worse.  I couldn’t understand why, if He loved me, He would take the one thing I wanted most away from me.  Brandon’s drinking had gotten much worse, teetering on the verge of alcoholism.  We fought constantly, each one of us dealing with countless demons.  We were in the depths of despair and couldn’t, wouldn’t reach out and grasp the lifeline that The Lord provided and climb out.
Today I can understand.  Today I can be thankful.  Today I know that had Lachlan lived he would have been born deaf, blind, and mentally handicapped because I had an infection in my 1st trimester that we had known nothing about.  Today I know that my Lachlan is running, playing, laughing and loving our Savior.  Today I am at peace.  Today I love my Lord more than I ever have.
In June of 2010, another positive home pregnancy test thrilled my soul and filled it with intense fear at the same time.  I had not fully rebuilt my relationship with The Lord and the worry and anxiety plagued me.  I went 19 weeks with no problems and then suddenly, while at work, my blood pressure shot sky high and landed me on bed rest.  For the next 20 weeks.  I was on blood pressure medicine and twice a week Non Stress Tests to keep my blood pressure under control and to keep a close eye on my baby, who through it all was deemed as healthy as could be.  This anatomy scan was filled with delight and when the tech said that magic word we burst into tears.  Boy. If Brandon’s grin had gotten any bigger it would’ve split his face in two.
In December 2010 I lost my job.  By law they only had to hold my position for 12 weeks and I had exceeded that.  I had been dreading it the whole time I had been on bed rest. It was a constant worry.  My income had already been slashed to 60% while I was on disability and we were barely making ends meet as it was.  How on earth were we going afford a baby with only one income?  I did my best not to worry about money for the sake of the baby.  I knew it was detrimental to my health, causing my blood pressure to raise and my swelling to worsen.  I could not see how we were going to make it.  I didn’t have faith that He would provide for us.
January 2011 brought the big day.  We were so excited for the induction that we sat up all night and got to the hospital nearly an hour early.  17 hours, 3 failed epidurals, and a C-section later and we had the most beautiful blessing from God in our arms.  We could not have been happier.  Kieran Alexander-Brodie Boyd was the most magnificent thing I’d ever laid eyes on.  I didn’t know that I could love something so tiny, so much.
Then, once again, that old familiar demon, worry, sat in.  I had managed to put the differences in our beliefs out of my mind temporarily.  But once Kieran was born I was not only accountable for myself but for him as well.  The arguments began almost immediately.  Will we teach him about Easter or the Passover?  Will he believe in the Rapture or be watching for the Anti-Christ to return first?  Will he be taught that drinking alcohol is a sin or permissible by the Bible?  Will he be allowed to eat pork meat or must he abstain?  The questions and the fighting were endless it seemed.  We went around in circles, never managing to come to an agreement.  I became very guarded and very protective of Kieran and what he was exposed to.  This put me at odds not only with Brandon but with my in-laws as well.  I was warring within my heart over what to do.  Terrified all the while that divorcing my husband would be my only option and yet still not the right answer.  I couldn’t stomach the thoughts of a custody battle or of him being exposed to the false doctrine and immoral ways of my in-laws without me as a safeguard.
In March 2011 my disability benefits ran out but I qualified for unemployment benefits.  The Lord had provided despite my overwhelming lack of faith.  The same month Brandon got a promotion at work which meant a raise.  A double blessing, of which I was so undeserving but so very thankful for.
In September of 2011, when Kieran was 8 months old, I took another home pregnancy test.  Positive.  My heart leapt with joy and sank with apprehension at the same time.  Again I was worried about the pregnancy and the baby.  Would this pregnancy be as hard as the last? Would I carry this baby to term?  Would this be a healthy baby?  And this time the trepidation about how we would raise our children was all too real.  But I was so eager and excited to have another tiny baby to love and snuggle that I pushed that uneasy feeling about raising them to the back of my mind.
In February 2012, I was 5 months pregnant with another boy (which tickled us to no end), and had enjoyed a wonderful pregnancy.  My doctor had taken extra precautions from the beginning but the difference in my pregnancies were night and day.  I was loving being a full time stay at home Momma and couldn’t wait for the new baby to arrive.  Kieran had just turned a year old and was walking and talking up a storm.  He was my delight, my joy, the very reason for my existence.  And the cause of much turmoil.  The breaking point came on a Sunday night.  We had loaded up for the evening to go to the in-laws, as was our usual habit, but the moment we arrived there was so much tension in the air you couldn’t stir it with a stick.  Kieran was sleeping and my rule was to never wake a sleeping baby, so I sat on the couch in the corner of the living room and did my best to keep him asleep as long as possible.  It was Super Bowl Sunday and a good a reason as any for Brandon and the in-laws to drink, not that they needed one.  It escalated quickly and as soon as the football game was over I was more than ready to pack up and go home.  Kieran was thankfully oblivious to the drunken adults around him.  He was wandering around into everything.  I had been working on teaching him the word No and about consequences.  Discipline was hard for me as a new Momma and I was doing the best that I knew how.  But the in-laws disagreed.  And one thing that Brandon and I had remained a united front on was that we were Kieran’s parents and that we would raise him as we saw fit (even if we couldn’t come to an agreement as to how).  We didn’t want any interference from his parents or from mine.  It was very important to me that I keep things as equally balanced as I could.  My parents didn’t babysit Kieran because I couldn’t allow my in-laws to, I couldn’t trust them.  My parents couldn’t have an inside dog because we’d asked my in-laws to remove theirs because we didn’t want Kieran crawling around in dog hair and on a urine stained carpet.  My parents could only see Kieran once a week because the in-laws only saw him once a week.  It was exhausting trying to maintain a balance between the grandparents but I knew if I didn’t it would cause yet another issue between Brandon and I.  My balance imploded that night in an explosive and unpredictable fight that quickly intensified to a physical altercation.  Never in a million years would I have dreamt that what happened could happen.  The night ended in ultimatums issued from both sides.  That was the last night Kieran saw Brandon’s parents.  That was the last night Brandon drank alcohol.  That was the last night we were out of church.  Brandon came home the very next night from work and announced that we needed to get our family in church and that come Sunday, we were going.  And we did. The Lord used such a terrible ordeal as a catalyst to set things in motion that no one could’ve seen coming.
Memorial Day weekend 2012 I went into labor.  I was in denial.  I was scheduled for a C-section for the end of the coming week and I still had a list a mile long of things that needed to be done.  The contractions started on Saturday and continued through Monday.  The only time they subsided was when I was in bed, lying completely still.  With a 17 month old toddler running around, lying down in bed was never an option.  They were still sporadic and not terribly painful so we held off on calling the doctor.  Tuesday rolled around and by 5 pm the contractions had gone from every 10 minutes to every 5 within the last hour and by 7 pm we were on our way to the hospital.  The contractions were coming every 3 minutes and I was gritting my teeth through the pain.  By 10:38 that night I was holding another of the most glorious blessings from God.  Devlin Jasper-David Boyd was breathtaking.  I had secretly worried that my heart wouldn’t hold enough love for two babies.  That somehow I wouldn’t be able to love Devlin as much as I loved Kieran.  A mother’s heart is a miraculous thing.  Somehow my heart grew in the very instant I heard his first cry.  My heart grew and burst with love.  God had given me 2 healthy sons and I was so thankful and so blessed.
In just the matter of a few short months The Lord had so transformed my life that it was barely recognizable.  I was closer to Him, more in love with Brandon and happier than I had ever been.  The Lord had truly worked a miracle in our lives.  Brandon was a new man, a changed man, a happy man.  Gone was the alcoholic, gone was the tobacco addiction, gone was the perverseness and filthy words he used to utter.  Gone too was his family.  From February to August of 2012 we had only seen and spoken to them 3 times.  They had held Devlin once.  They cut us out of their lives.  Unable to abide by the stipulations we had set, they chose false doctrine and alcohol over their grandchildren.  Brandon rarely talked about it.  I knew the hurt was there.  I knew his heart broke a little with each day that passed without them.  But little did I know the work that The Lord was doing in his heart.  As he mourned the loss of his parents as though they had died, The Lord was mending his heart, putting it back together with pieces of His own.  On August 12, 2012 Brandon stood up in church and announced his call to preach.  Never had a congregation been more stunned yet more accepting than that Sunday.  But they had seen the difference in Brandon.  When Brandon and I started dating, I never imagined we’d end up as a preaching family. The thought never crossed my mind.  My Momma had always told me that she knew I was destined for great things. That The Lord was going to use me in a mighty way.  I had always laughed. I’m certain she never expected this.
Our happiness didn’t seem to last very long.  I reckon the moment Brandon stood up and announced his call to preach, the devil jumped on our backs.  There was more hardship on the horizon.  Brandon began to have difficulty at work, with his supervisor in particular.  The man was ex-military and claimed to be a Christian.  When he learned that Brandon was a young preacher he began to ridicule him for his faith and for his preaching.  He continually brow beat Brandon and jumped on him for things at work that were out of Brandon’s control.  The straw soon broke the camel’s back and Brandon had had enough.  In March 2013, after a confrontation with his supervisor, Brandon sat down at a table in the break room and began to pray.  He prayed until he felt he had an answer from The Lord and then he stood, gathered his things and walked out the door.  He called me on his way home to tell me he had quit his job.  To say that I was dumbfounded is putting it mildly.  I called my Momma, still too shocked to cry, and asked her what in the world we were going to do.  Pray she said.  And pray is what we did.
It was the longest and the toughest 8 months of my life.  Brandon couldn’t find a steady job and not for lack of trying.  We filled out dozens and dozens of job applications.  He even went door to door handing out his resume.  He was placed several times with a temp agency but it was never for very long, never enough pay. I was at home with 2 babies, 1 still nursing and refusing to take a bottle, and couldn’t find a job with enough income to support us.  We quickly fell into financial ruin, nearly lost our home, and almost lost our faith.  Had it not been for The Lord and my family we’d have been in a cardboard box under a bridge somewhere, homeless with 2 babies.  My Daddy helped us in ways I’ll never be able to repay.  He became our provider, our protector, our champion.  There was not a single time in that seemingly never-ending 8 months that we called on my Daddy that he turned us away. Never.  He did all that he could to keep us clothed, fed and warm.  And he never faulted Brandon for taking a stand for The Lord.  My Momma prayed.  My Momma encouraged.  My Momma defended Brandon at every turn.  My Momma is Brandon’s biggest supporter.  She saw through the struggle and she put her faith in The Lord when I couldn’t seem to.  My sisters and brothers are the reason my children have a home today.  They gave Brandon work when they could so he could earn money and paid our bills when we couldn’t.  There is not a soul on this earth who could ask for better sisters and brothers than what The Lord has blessed me with. My family has become Brandon’s family.  They have taken him in as one of their own.  They love him like he was blood.  I cannot thank The Lord enough for our family, for the abounding love they have shown us.
In October 2013 in the midst of the madness that had become our lives, Brandon got a call from a close preacher friend of ours about a job opening.  The job seemed like a long shot and never have there been more people praying for one man to get a job than there were praying for Brandon. On October 31st Brandon started his new job.  A first shift job.  A job making more money than he had been, with ample opportunity to move up within the company.  Our sigh of relief was like the shot heard round the world.  God’s grace was so abundant.  The past 8 months suddenly made sense.  We couldn’t know that Christ was all we needed until Christ was all we had.
In December 2013 I took a home pregnancy test.  Our 5th positive.  We were filled with anticipation and happiness.  We immediately began planning.  I had saved all our baby stuff from the boys and we only needed a couple of items.  I already had names picked out and Kieran and Devlin were excited.  The first couple of weeks went by quickly but then morning sickness hit and suddenly my energy was gone, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep, and I was dizzy all the time.  Something wasn’t right.  I could feel it in my bones.  I prayed and I prayed for my baby and the pregnancy.  And when I wasn’t praying I was trying to push the worry aside.
At the end of January 2014 I went to the doctor for my first check up and ultrasound.  I was 10 weeks along.  I knew the moment the doctor turned toward me that my baby was gone.  The baby had not developed and there was no heartbeat.  That familiar pain rose up again and gripped my heart.  As much as I had feared it, I still had not really expected it.  But this time was different.  This time I didn’t cry out in anger and demand to know why The Lord had taken my baby.  This time I didn’t let my pain separate me from my Savior.  This time Brandon and I turned to The Lord with our grief.  We turned to Him for comfort and healing.  The pain was still there but the peace was too. I knew that God’s will is far greater and more perfect than my own.  And I know that one day soon my family will be whole again.  There will be 3 sets of tiny feet standing with my Savior at the gates of heaven.  3 sets of precious arms to wrap around my neck and 3 sets of perfect lips to kiss me and call me Momma.  My angel babies are perfect in heaven where there is no pain and no sorrow and no darkness.  And my Jesus loves them more than I can even comprehend.
The trials and the tribulations that Brandon and I have faced in the last 9 years have put a special burden in our hearts for other Christians experiencing hardships, for other mothers who have lost babies, and for the lost who have no Savior to call on for comfort and healing.  Today we are praying hard and working toward building our ministry.  God has placed a calling on our lives and we want to do nothing more than to please Him.  The Lord is blessing Brandon with open doors to preach and we are so very thankful for them.  We’ve started a website and a blog, all brand new territory for us, and the going is slow but exciting.  Our boys are growing and filing our lives with so much love and gladness.  Our family has continued to support us in everything that we do and encourage us at every opportunity.  We simply want to love the Lord, to help those around us and bring glory and honor to God in all that we do and in all that we are.

*Update April 19, 2015
The last year has held much joy, excitement, change, sadness, and sorrow. But it has held more of our Father’s love, mercy, and grace than we have ever deserved.
Brandon is still on 1st shift at his job and it continues to be an amazing blessing. I am still staying at home with our boys. Both Brandon and I are enrolled in full-time college courses, he at Liberty University and I at Walden University. Our dream and goal, if it be the Lord’s will, is to open a Christian counseling center in our community. Our desire to serve our Master and to help those around us has only grown in the last year. Kieran has been in our county’s mobile pre-school program since August and he loves it. He goes for 3.5 hours a week and he enjoys playing with the other children so much. While Kieran is at school, Devlin and I spend time with my Papaw. It is such a joy to see the relationship that he has developed with his great-grandfather. I am so thankful that the Lord has given me the opportunity to witness the bond that has grown between the two of them. It is beautiful.
In February of this year the Lord decided to bless us with a baby, something I had long been praying for. However in March, the Lord chose to take our baby back to heaven. It has been hard and painful to understand and to deal with. It was very unexpected and though it is a familiar pain, it is never easy. But we know that we will be reunited to heaven one sweet day. Our family will be complete in that heavenly city, in the glorious magnificence of our Savior.
We are healing each and every day. The Lord’s grace has been present throughout it all. And we are continuing to pray about the Lord’s will for our family.
Today though was a joyous day. We had Brandon’s licensing service at our home church and the significance of it was overwhelming. It will never cease to amaze me the power that God has and the power of a single person's prayer. We were humbled by today and our prayer is to always and unceasingly follow the will of God, to be of service to Him, to bring glory and honor to His name. We are thankful to every single person who has ever uttered a prayer for our sakes and our ministry, to those of you who are a source of encouragement, support, and love, to our family, we'd not be where we are today without them and the Lord. And eternally thankful to the Lord for His soul saving power, mercy, grace, guidance, love.
